Frequently Asked Questions

What is Teton Whitewater's Cancellation Policy?

For groups less than 10 people you are able to cancel up until 48 hours (two days) before your trip day and time, for groups of 10 or more people you are able to cancel up until one week before your trip day and time.

This should give you plenty of time to finalize your trip details and check for good weather. If you cancel within the allowed time you are eligible for a full refund.

Teton Whitewater has a 48-hour cancellation policy. If you notify us of your intent to cancel the booked trip outside 48 hours of departure, then we offer a 100% refund. For groups of 10 or more, we have a 1-week cancellation policy. Anyone that cancels before these times will receive a 100% refund. We are limited by the National Forest Service, National Park Service, and or Teton County (depending on the trip) as to how many people we can bring down the Snake River on one trip. If you book a spot on a trip, we are no longer able to sell your seat, therefore, if you cancel within the time of our cancellation policy, we can only refund the money if we can find people to fill the spots you have vacated.

What times are each trip available each day?

Trip times can vary depending on the day or month. To find trip times for any given trip, simply click on the boat size you would like at the top of this page, then follow the “BOOK NOW” button prompt.

Where do we meet for our trip? How do trips normally work?

All trips meet at our office, from that point we shuttle you to and from your trip. At the office, there are bathrooms and changing rooms. Also, wetsuit and bootie rentals are available there as well. The office address can be found here or at the bottom of each website page.

260 N Cache Street, Jackson, WY 83001

Some large groups elect to meet us at the boat ramp rather than the office for our whitewater trips, if that is something you are interested in please email the office and let them know, they will also be able to give you instructions on how/when to do so.

Can I buy a gift certificate or reserve a trip for friends and family?

Yes, absolutely! Just click on the “Trips” tab and scroll all the way down to the bottom of the page, there you will find the instructions and the button to buy a gift certificate or reserve a trip for someone else.

What should I wear?

Well, It depends on the trip you choose:

For Scenic trips you shouldn’t get wet and normal casual clothes are encouraged, it’s always a good idea to bring a light jacket or sweater as well. Your feet might get wet so please keep that in mind and be sure to choose appropriate footwear. Scenic trips include complimentary water as well as blankets and ponchos in case of inclement weather. Feel free to bring some snacks as well πŸ™‚

For Whitewater trips, you are sure to get soaked! Swimsuits and sturdy footwear are encouraged for this trip, you might even want to consider renting wetsuits or booties from our office to help you stay warm!

Be sure to check out each trip’s specific web page for more details!

What class of rapids are on the Snake River?

The Snake River is classified as a Class III (Grade 3) river. This is on the international scale, which is a Class I – Class V scale. This means our stretch of river is an intermediate rating and is great for all rafters, friends, and family!

Like all rivers, the Snake river experiences fluctuations in its water level throughout the summer. Normally, this means the river starts high at the beginning of the summer and ends low at the end of the summer. Both high and low water present new fun river personalities and may change the experience you have each year. High water (most commonly occurring sometime in May and June) is caused by snowmelt or what’s commonly called the spring runoff. High water changes a few things and some class IIII rapids usually come out, for many this can be a very exciting time. High water can cause our age limit to increase and our small boat options to change. High water is great for the adventures and thrill-seekers, while low water (most commonly occurring sometime in late August and September) is great for those more cautious rafters.

Most importantly just be aware that high or low water flows can change river conditions and the experience you might have. Stay informed, and plan your trip accordingly. No matter what level river you float, high or low, our guides are there to help keep you safe!

Does Teton Whitewater have a weight limit?

We do not have an established weight limit, our life vests can fit up to a 58-inch chest. If you have any concerns, shoot us an email or give us a call!

Does Teton Whitewater have T-Shirts, Hats, etc. to remember our trip by?

Yes, absolutely! Stop by the office before or after your trip for a selection of guide gear, apparel, and other stuff for your trip or just to remember us by!

How early should I book my trip?

Great question! Nothing is worse than calling days, weeks, or even months before you want to go on a trip and finding out we are all full. We encourage you to make your booking as soon as possible just to make sure you secure your spot!

Group size is probably the most important thing to consider when deciding how early to book your trip, the larger your group or family, the earlier you should book. Rafting is similar to the airline industry in the sense that once all our seats are gone, they are gone. Government regulations by the Forest and Park service limit the number of boaters we can take at one time, so play it safe and plan ahead.

Lastly, our cancelation policy is such that it makes booking in advance very safe. For groups less than 10 people you can call and cancel and get a full refund as long as you do so at least 48 hours (two days) before your trip. For groups over 10 people the same rule applies except you must call and cancel at least one week before your trip.

How do Combo trips work?

Combo trips are a great option if you want to save money but also want the best of both worlds! Combo trips typically take around 8 hours total and include a combination of two of our separate floats, a Scenic Float and a Whitewater Float. You meet at our office in town and then we shuttle you to and from each trip. Inbetween trips we provide you with a delicious deli luch (including a sandwich, chips, water, and a cookie πŸ™‚

Here’s how it works:

First, you choose a scenic trip date & time. Our 13 mile Wilson Scenic float (located entirely in Teton County just west of the town of Jackson), is a beautiful stretch of the Snake River with typically 8 to 10 people on one scenic boat.

Second, you choose a whitewater package, date, & time. Both packages are the same trip, you simply have a choice between our Classic 16 person raft (the big boat) or our 8 person Small Boat Slam (the small boat). Both are awesome, the big for the average rafter, and the small for the adventurer!

Where do I find my whitewater photos?

The photos taken from your whitewater rafting trip are a service provided by a separate company named Snake River Photo, find and purchase your pictures there at www.snakeriverphoto.com.

What is the difference between the whitewater trips and the scenic trips?

Great question! To put it simply, our scenic trips are scenic, and our whitewater trips are wet!

What does this mean specifically? Well, for the scenic trip is a 13 mile Wilson Scenic float (located entirely in Teton County just west of the town of Jackson). It’s a beautiful stretch of the Snake River with typically 8 to 10 people on one scenic boat. The Wilson float is great for seeing bald eagles, moose, and other wildlife and scenery!

Scenic trips are great for beautiful views and the possibility of seeing wildlife. On these trips you shouldn’t get wet and normal casual clothes are encouraged, it’s always a good idea to bring a light jacket or sweater as well. True, your feet may get a tad wet, but for the most part, these trips include calm waters, good conversations, questions, pictures, and beautiful views. Scenic trips include complimentary water as well as blankets and ponchos in case of inclement weather. Feel free to bring some snacks as well πŸ™‚

Our famous 8-mile whitewater rafting trip includes splashy rapids like Big Kahuna, Lunch Counter, Ropes, and Champagne, so you are sure to get tons of splashes and have a lot of fun! For this trip, you can choose between two options, either our Classic 16 person raft (the big boat), or our 8 people Small Boat Slam (the small boat). Both boats float the same stretch of river and both are awesome! The big boat for the average rafter, and the small boat for the adventurer! Swimsuits and sturdy footwear are encouraged for this trip, you might even want to consider renting wetsuits or booties from our office to help you stay warm!

Both trips include an experienced and trained guide, ask them whatever you want! Both Scenic and Whitewater trips are amazing and by far the most fun you’ll have in Jackson Hole!

Is there an age limit for running the river and how does it work?

Yes, Teton Whitewater has an age limit of 6 years old for Whitewater trips and 4 years old for Scenic trips. For Whitewater trips only, please note that if water levels rise (usually beginning in May, as temperatures increase and snow melts and potentially lasting as late as July), that this age limit can change. Starting at 6 years old the age limit can increase to 8, 10, or even up to 12 depending on the water level.

Conversely, individuals with very advanced ages are discouraged from booking whitewater trips and may not be able to ride.

Please email or call with any specific questions or concerns!

Can I get a copy of the Participation Agreement Form to print out for our group to sign before we get there?

Yes, absolutely! Just click here!

How can I apply to work at Teton Whitewater?

Teton Whitewater offers a variety of positions from working as a guide, to working in our office, or as a driver, etc. All you have to do is send an email to manager@tetonwhitewater.com. Use the email to tell us about yourself (kind of like a cover letter) and then just be sure to attach your resume along with any character references. We start accepting applications in December, then by February or March (at the latest) we usually have all of our positions filled. We do most of our training and certifications in-house, but the more experience and certs you have the better! Good luck!

Is rafting the Snake River dangerous?

Whitewater rafting has inherent risks, but Teton Whitewater trains all of its guides in Swiftwater rescue to the American Canoe Association standards. Our safety record is top-notch, and we focus on mitigating risk, and always put safety first. This section of the river is considered a pool-drop section, which means that it will have sections of calm water, followed by rapids, followed by calm water, etc. This makes the trip less dangerous because the rapids are not all continuous.
