We offer river trips, shuttles, and camping for individuals, families, and groups.
The Hiwassee is one of the very few Tennessee State Scenic Rivers. It is accessible to all levels of paddlers. It is a comfortable float punctuated by occasional Class I & II rapids. The trip is self-guided so you can enjoy the river at your own pace. Chances are that you will get wet, and the water can be cold.
Note: All individuals must sign waiver forms before rafting. Parents/guardians must sign for minors.
Your boat, paddle, and personal floatation device are provided with your rental. Shoes are required in the river. Closed-toed river shoes or Chacos are ok. No flip-flops. We recommend that you bring personal items like sunscreen, insect spray, water, snacks, a waterproof bag for your phone, camera, car keys etc. Coolers (non Styrofoam) are OK, but alcohol and glass are not allowed on the river in the Cherokee National Forest. If you forget something, our camp store probably has it.
Full refunds are available up to 48 hours before reservation time. Contact us via the website or call 423-338-4488. WE GO RAIN OR SHINE, however, we do reserve the right to cancel a trip (with a full refund if we cancel) based on conditions beyond our control.
Our family-friendly campground offers options for tent camping and self-contained RVs. Whether you are paddler, a fisherman or in the area to enjoy the Cherokee National Forest, settle for the night in our campground. Our amenities include the best bathhouses on the river with flush toilets and hot showers, picnic tables, a camp sink for washing the dishes, and a camp store.
The Hiwassee Outfitters store stocks all your essentials for a memorable visit, including outfitter gear, camping supplies, and snacks.
Whether you are looking for last minute personal items for your paddle on the river or clothes/shoes, camping gear, snacks, drinks or beer, we have it. Additionally, if we don’t have it, our Knoxville store probably does and it can be shipped directly to you.
Great question! Nothing is worse than calling days, weeks, or even months before you want to go on a trip and finding out we are all full. We encourage you to make your booking as soon as possible just to make sure you secure your spot!
Group size is probably the most important thing to consider when deciding how early to book your trip, the larger your group or family, the earlier you should book. Rafting is similar to the airline industry in the sense that once all our seats are gone, they are gone.
Lastly, our cancelation policy is such that it makes booking in advance very safe. For groups less than 10 people you can call and cancel and get a full refund as long as you do so at least 48 hours (two days) before your trip. For groups over 10 people the same rule applies except you must call and cancel at least one week before your trip.
Trip times can vary depending on the day or month. To find trip times for any given trip, simply click on the boat size you would like at the top of this page, then follow the “BOOK NOW” button prompt.
All trips meet at our office, from that point we shuttle you to and from your trip. At the office, there are bathrooms and changing rooms. The office address can be found here, on Google or at the bottom of each website page.

You are allowed to bring your family friend, but we caution you: If your pet is not used to floating down a river then perhaps you might want to keep them at home this time.
For groups less than 10 people you are able to cancel up until 48 hours (two days) before your trip day and time, for groups of 10 or more people you are able to cancel up until one week before your trip day and time.
This should give you plenty of time to finalize your trip details and check for good weather. If you cancel within the allowed time you are eligible for a full refund.
